Best cities in Florida for an Interracial family? We're moving from Michigan to Florida next year. In our town, it's mostly whites, however, it's been nothing but great living here. I'm a little anxious about moving to the South with my family. My husband (Vietnamese/German) is from Florida and I (Black) have only visited. Now that we have a daughter, we want her to grow up around a diverse yet SAFE environment with a good school system. Any suggestions?
How do I choose the best Florida city to live in? My husband works in construction all over Florida but mostly between Ft. Lauderdale and Melbourne. I am currently in Key West but need to find a place where my husband can be closer to home. We have one child in 1st grade and one starting high school and would like to live in an area with good schools and fun things for the kids to do. I also need to find a job in teaching or Social work. I need some advice on how to go about choosing the best city.

What is the best city in Florida with a beach? A city in Florida, with a beach or walking distance from a beach, has places for teens that cannot yet drive to hangout, and nice houses (two-story at least three bedroom). Is there such a thing? Thanks. I promise to pick best answer. ~ Meggy
What Are the Best Up-and-Coming Cities in Florida Close to a Major Metropolitan Area? Alrighty, here's my dilemma. I lived in Florida for a brief time in 2005 (6 months to the day, to be exact). I had moved to Melbourne, intending to relocate there permanently. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond my control, things just didn't work out and I had to move back home. Now, about 2 years have passed since the events, and I'm looking to give the Sunshine State another try. I've recently gotten engaged, and with the high cost of living in California (which is where I live now), it's about that time again. I've spoken it over with my fiancee, and of everywhere in the US she wants to go to Florida (the similar weather, cheaper cost of living, and overall climate). I don't know where to go, though. I want to stay as far away from Brevard County as possible, but still in a nice up-and-coming area with an overall cheap cost of living. I'd like to buy a house in 5 or so years. I'm at a loss for exactly where to look, but I'd like to live in the burbs of a major area. Thanks!! The kicker here is that we're an interracial couple, so we're looking to move somewhere where we won't be bothered with the overrall ignorance of most of America (it's easy to say ignore it if you're not in the same situation yourself). We'd like to relocate here permanently, so someplace with a promising future that's a great place to raise a family. Those of you that live in Florida would be most helpful in my decision making. I've so far looked at Lake County. How about suburbs of Jacksonville? Penscola? Gainesville? or Orlando? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hex-Seriously! I don't want to move to a manmade island. We're interracial, not aliens! Plus, we're not rich... Rachael-I apologize. I do have a assumption about the South. Just growing up in the North all my life, everyone always talks about "The South" and in not so nice terms. I must say, though, that my family and I did visit Florida last year and didn't have any problems whatsoever. I just want my girl to be in an area where people are less concerned with her racial makeup. That's all.

I like big cities, but don't want to live in one. 1 or 2 hours away would be good. I'm into the nightlife -- great danceclubs where you can actually feel comfortable, places with Style but not too pretentious or ritzy. I'm into shows, the likes of the Shins / Decemberists. Just drove 600+ miles to see Radiohead at Bonnaroo last week -- I'm 25, and this should give you a good sense of the things I'm into. Where do like-minded people move to in Florida & California?
