What are the best cities to live in in Iowa? I am looking into moving to Iowa and starting a business and would like to know the best spots to live. Of course I have researched it online, but it is hard to find out what the best small cities are around the larger cities. If you can, please tell me about the main cities, as well as some affordable suburbs surrounding them. We are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment for around $400-$450/month. Thanks.

Best Small Town Rural Southern Cities to Live In? So I've been through a lot of times in the area I live in, and it holds a lot of patterned routines that are not healthy for my mindset. I'm also not suited for the income that is required to maintain a lifestyle here, or the atmosphere that this environment provides. I've been trying to do some research into quiet rurual southen areas that are low key and low population, traditional types-- farmers markets and country stores and local shops and such, not so spread out that it's not functionally developed, but enough to have a community thats welcoming and involved. I know all the big busy names likes Savannah and Atlanta and those things, but I'm trying to find the smaller off "45 minutes from such and such" places, where places go as fixer upers and small amount of land for cheap, get the drift? I'm from South Florida so the heat doesn't do me me in, it's the snow I have only seen once in my life. I'm a simple sort of girl really and not in the meek sense, I just don't have the taste for down here, I'd rather be sitting out back on my friends poarch and working and things like that then trying to beat 'f rush how... y'know.. the more natual qualities and bountiful things
Best Cities To Live In? I was wondering what some good cities to live in are? I live in ohio right now and I hate it! I have lived here all my life and I think its soooooo lame and boring. I really would like to live in a big city but I have lived in the country most of my life outside of a small city! I dont like the cold, and I would like to be close to amusement parks so I could get season passes!
Best cities to live in the States? I know this question has been asked many times, but always get different opinions. I would like to hear it again. I lived in Bay Area, California for 5 years, then for job related issue, currently live in Vancouver, Canada. I kinda like both places. The California has very nice weather, but not much going on (boring). Vancouver is nice, very convenient to go around, nice beaches, but rains a lot, and small city. I am considering to move to Florida, which I heard it's fun, like beaches, weather, crowded, but downsides could be the education (for our children in the future), and safety. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I live in San Jose area, there's nothing going on. There's no cars on the street after 10pm, all stores closed. If I wanted to go to beaches, I had to drive like 1 hour, and found out there's nobody there, even in the weekend. New York could be fun, like the scenes in Garfields where he lives. anyone know which area/city is that?
What is the best city to live in surrounding Houston? My fiance works for an oil company based in Houston; right now he lives and works for that same company in Odessa, where I do not want to start a family and make our life. He wants to transfer to the Houston division, but we want to live in one of the smaller surrounding cities with low crime and good neighborhoods and school districts to raise a family in - what are the best cities to do this in?

What are the best most affordable small town locations to live in Virginia? maybe a fixer upper if the house has updated electrical, eco. heating and cooling? I like small towns, I hate big cities. I also like country living areas. I want something that may only need minor repairs, example; I can put in laminet floors, tile flooring, paint... I am a person who likes sitting on the porch. I have young children... the schools are important.

Can anyone suggest any good, small, cheap cities to live in California? I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a small, safe, and cheap city to live in California. By small I mean with a population of about 100,000 or so. I don't want to live in a place with a pop. over 1,000,000. I'd prefer if there were any sports teams. Also a place that the apartments would be reasonably priced. And most important of all, a safe city. Hope someone can help.
Why are people that live in big cities more liberal than people that live in small cities? It seems like, in general, people that live in big cities are more liberal than people that live in small cities. New Yorkers, for example, are in general more liberal than people that live in Des Moines Iowa. People in Boston are more liberal than people that live in Lincoln Nebraska, and people in San Francisco are more liberal than people in Bismark North Dakota. It's not an exact relationship. Obviously, there are conservatives in big cities, but in general it seems like big cities are more liberal. I'm not judging or advocating that trend, just observing it. What are the reasons for that?
Safest large town/small cities to live in the US? Obviously, there's unlikely to be much crime in a small town of 5000, but can you suggest any safe, large towns (population 100,000 - 200,000), that doesn't have too many social problems, and generally has good amenities, shopping, etc, without having to travel too far.
What is the best US medium or small sized city to live in without a car? I'm currently living in NYC. I'm starting to think about somewhere to relocate to in maybe a year or so. I've never gotten my driver's license. I tried once many years ago but I was just horrible. I'm looking for a smaller city where I can get around ok without a car. I've heard some good things about both Portland and Madison and if anyone wanted to extend their opinion regarding those two or add to my list, I'd be grateful. I'd be renting and looking for something less than then I pay in NYC (obviously, ha)! I'd love a place that has concerts regularly and maybe a quiet bar with good beers. I also wouldn't mind some semblance of variety with local restaurant options. I'm an office manager working in the creative field so the availability of work at a design or advertising firm, publisher or something similar would be a plus (but not a deal-breaker). Finally, I've been toying with the idea of getting a scooter that doesn't require a license for what that's worth.
Do you vegetarians live in big cities, small towns or rural areas? I'm just curious if your environment has anything to do with your diet choices. If you've moved around a lot then just where you lived when you chose to be a vegetarian. veggie tart---You are NOT a vegan. vegan kitty---you are NOT a vegan. evilnumberlady-----you really think Lansing, Michigan is a big city??
Best gay-friendly cities to live in the southern U.S.? Are there any cities in the south of U.S. where gays are welcomed, or at least well-accepted? I'm used to living in huge cities where being gay is hardly an issue. There may be some job opportunities for me in the bible belt of the south. What might some of my options be? It would be nice if there were a decent gay culture (like Atlanta) too. But beyond Atlanta, I'd like to find out about much smaller cities that might not be so obvious as well. What do you think? Hearing about cities to definitely avoid is helpful too. I'm hoping to hear about less obvious big cities, plus smaller cities in these states: LA, MS, AL, GA, TN, AR, the Carolinas. Thanks!
What would be the best place for me to live in England? I'm thinking about moving to England and I'm not very familiar with the area so I was wondering what would be the best place for me to live. I like city life, so I want to be close to the city, but I'm not sure I want to live in it. I would like to live in a small town, with some history, maybe old churches, but that's really close to a big city, like London. Any suggestions??
I want to start a little vegie/herb garden but I live in a small city apartment.? What vegies/herbs are the least maintenance, smallest in size, highest in yield that I could cultivate on my balcony? What vegies/herbs are the least maintenance, smallest in size, highest in yield that I could cultivate on my balcony? I live in Queensland, Australia so it's sub tropical I guess would be the best way to describe it.
how many live in small towns, and who feels that people in small towns are more prejudiced than cities? why? after reading some posts, it seems that many think people in small towns or rural areas in the US, are a bunch of bible thumping neanderthals, waiting in the brush to ambush outsiders. i wonder how many people with that view of small town america, have even been, stayed, lived, in a rural area. in my town, we know everyone at least by sight. we don't bother each other, but we care about each other. we be there in a second if anyone needed help. that would include anyone new to our community. no one out here in neanderthal land, cares much about anything except the kind of person you are in our community. i have to admit, i was pretty disappointed that fellow americans have such a negative view of rest of us.
What kinds of places are best for highly introverted people to live in? Any specific cities/towns? I've heard some people say big cities are better because people mind their own business, you can be anonymous, and it's easier to find people who share your unique interests. However, I've heard others say small towns are better because of the stability, peacefulness, and less overwhelming stimulation. Which is best? Any particular places? Advice if you'd like to live in a big city someday, far from your family?
Where do I find a small cheap house outside New York City? I want to move outside the city. We do not need to be commutable to jobs since we are disabled. I'm looking to spend 70-80K on a 2-3 bed room house in an area with a small city. Living in NYC apts is too expensive. I don't want to be more than 3 hours from NYC.
Economy and cost of living better off in a big city or a small city? I was living in Clarksville, TN around the military base at Ft. Cambpell, after I got out of the Army. I was getting paid at $5.75 an hour, and then I went to live in another city a little bigger and was getting paid $9.70 an hour. The apartment prices and costs of products were actually about the same. Now, I met a friend who lives in a even bigger city than the city I lived in. I noticed that the costs of living is the same. The pay rate raises even higher though. It seems to me the bigger the city you live in the easier it is to make it. I always thought this was the opposite. What do you think? Anyone ever lived in a small city then to bigger city and notice the change or from bigger city to a much small city. Like example, Clarksville, Tennessee to Chicago, Illinois or Jackson, Mississippi to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A huge difference of city location and way of life?
Which cities or towns in the northeast are amongst the best places to live and buy a home? I'm from NYC, I just moved back here from Los Angeles because I want to be closer to my family. Still, I don't want to stay in NYC. (I do love my home, but it's not cost effective for me to remain a resident) I just want to live close by. Any ideas on where I can find some affordable real estate (ie: 50 - 150,000 range) in other cities or towns nearby --maybe like two to three hours away? I'm looking for decent, well-rounded places that offer a multitude of options. Smaller towns are ok, but they shouldn't be microscopic. I'm still young (in my lae 20's) so there would have to be an 20 - 30's crowd, some sort of nightlife or places to meet people.
Can anyone name some small cities/towns in Montana? I'm looking to move to Montana. I want to live in a smaller city or town that is more rural. I'm looking for that small community feel. If it were close to a bigger city that would be key! Thanks for any help! I'm looking to move to Montana. I want to live in a smaller city or town that is more rural. I'm looking for that small community feel. If it were close to a bigger city that would be key! Thanks for any help! P.S I'm a middle school teacher
Are parties more likely to be busted in small cities or in large cities.? I live in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and parties here always get busted with even parties of adults getting busted for no reason. I was wandering if parties in Manhattan (near Columbia or NYU for example) were less likely to get busted? I wandered if the NYPD would be more concerned with serious crimes, due to the larger population of Manhattan?
Outdoorsy cities to live in, in Australia? I'd like to live in a city with alot of outdoor activities to do, like hiking, biking, and maybe has walking trails. I've read that there's some near the mountains, so I'd love to live near the mountains. Having good shopping nearby would be a plus. I'd like to live in a city with about 100,000 people or less, so a good place would be a smaller city in the suburbs. If you can give me any info, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
I live in a small city with one grocery store...? This store does not have meat substitutes such as tofu or lentile. I was wondering if anyone had any good recipes for vegetarian meals that are nutricious and are composed entirely of items you can get at a regualr grocery store. I do eat eggs and milk (I am a lactate-ovo wegetarian), so these are good for ingredients. Thanks for your help!!! I have done things like spaghetti whith onions and baked beans in the sauce (I would not suggest baked beans in the sauce again. Beans do not make a good meat substitute!!!) and fried mushrooms (fried in butter, delicious!!!). I'm gonna try today some tomatoe soup with mixed vegetables thrown in with a little bit of spices. Any other ideas? I don't have a vehicle so I can't drive to the next city to go grocery shopping. The grocery store does have beans. In what kind of recipes can beans be used for as a substitute for meat?
