Best place/country in the world to live in?
So what is the best place/country in the world to live in? What would your criteria be for choosing it? The UN does not consider us the best place, as a matter of fact we're in sixth place, we actually dropped 3 spots since Bush came on. That's based on several criterias- education, healthcare, social programs etc. How about human rights issues? We used to point the finger at evrybody else and told them that they should shape up, now, we're one of the worst violators in the world? http://thereport.amnesty.org/eng/Regions/Americas/United-States-of-America How about environmental issues? I mean , we walked away from signing the Kyoto Accord. Thank God, the Bush administration has finally at least admitted that we're the worst violators in the world; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2023835.stm Although there are a lot of us that still think it's all propoganda or a work of fiction. Or do you think that the United Nations, Amnesty International and The BBC are all terrorist organizations that are out to get us? Are we going to keep hiding our heads in the ground like stupid ostriches and pretend none of this is real? We're the best country in the world, but we should start acting and behaving like one.... We've been warned by our fore fathers but we've conveniently chosen to ignore:When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will ... become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated." - Thomas Jefferson So what do we do?

- Are you referring to the "HDI"? The index is already biased towards the people that came up with it. Socialist Europeans. You should check out how they rate different categories and then wonder if a country like the United States should try to compete? Some of the obvious bias is health care, education, social programs. The United States is still a capitalist free market economy, as much as some of you Democrats whine about daily. We have much lower taxes and much fewer social programs/national health care/and lacking areas of public education. The funniest thing about these issues is that the public education is the most socialist program while our colleges and universities (more privately funded if not completely privately funded) are the best in the world bar none. There is a reason why you always hear of the terrorists and foreigners "studying in the West" which means one of two things, Cambridge, Oxford, or the US. National health care systems guarantee that everyone has health insurance and they sure pay for it. It also insures that their medical establishment will be status quo. When is the last time you heard of a medical breakthrough or a breakthrough drug come from anywhere but the US? Interesting how anyone who can afford it comes to the US for surgeries etc. Whenever a world leader gets sick, do you know where he gets treated? You guessed it. Here. The HDI is an obviously biased index made by the socialist elites of Europe to make themselves look good. Amazing how socialist European countries are at the top, eh? While their citizens still clamor for a US visa. The HDI is complete nonsense. It is not a fair measure of "human development", it is a fair measure of progression to socialism in the industrialized world. But tell you what, if you want to live in a country that taxes upwards of 60% of your income, tells you where you can be treated, preplans your life, and holds your hand the whole time, then leave the US and go live in Norway. The US is built on the individual and founded on the individual. Here, an individual can make his own destiny, reap the rewards of that destiny, or ,yes gasp!, suffer the consequences of his actions.
- The UN is a joke why do you put any credence in anything it says? The us is the greatest and the proof is that US haters like you wouldn't live anywhere else, I have never heard of anybody swimming the Rio Grand River to be an illegal alien in Mexico. When was the last time a boatload of Americans washed ashore in China seeking asylum.
- CANADA BY FAR-------WE DON'T HAVE BUSH AB
- Thats fine...tell the UN to send everyone who wants to come to the US to the 5 other awesome countries on the list first
- Luxembourg is supposedly the best place to live however, I'll remain here, continue advocating a constitution based system of government - the type that originally landed us on top of the pack - and take my chances in the good ole US of A.
- No no everybody come to Malaysia! Best place in hell!
- Most people in the west and far east think their own country is the best in the world. It's all a matter of opinion and what your values are. Generally Socialist countries do better on the official list because of their good health care, education systems, etc.
- Go to Antartica. There's no racist there.Futhermore, You'll be closer to nature.
