Places in Texas to camp (cabins with Air conditioning) fishing, etc?

I'm looking for a place in Texas, somewhere within 3 hours (preferably) from Austin, that has somewhat remote campgrounds with lodging (Air conditioning a must with the summer heat here). Would like to be able to go within walking distance for fishing, hiking, etc.

  1. I was born in Austin and we always went to my uncles beach house in Galveston. The place is gorgeous and the waters are warm and shallow for a long ways out. That's a place i would recommend. Look for a nice hotel there. You could easily walk to a dock where someone could take you deep see fishing. The fishing is great there. the first fish i caught was a flounder there. It is a lot of fun and is a great place to go if you are in a relationship and you have kids or not, Galveston is an aw some place to consider.

  3. lake brownwood is awesome. and includes all of those features.
  4. Here is a link to the state park's website that lists the parks that have cabins, it may help some. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/parkinfo/facilities/lodging/#cab (Fishing, hiking and boating may be temporary altered, depending on where you go, due to the large amount of rain we have had recently.)
