Are there any really great places to visit in Colorado that are more hidden and not in most tourist guides?

We are about to take a trip to roadtrip to Colorado from Texas and would love to know where to find some lesser known places that are beautiful to look at or neat to visit.

1. Biggest thing is get off of the highways. If you are looking for a winter destination off of the beaten path (but not too far) head for the Durango area in SW CO. If you enjoy the old west, east of Pueblo there a number of historic sites and a national grassland. In the summer, any county or state road will be used lightly compared to the Interstates and US Highways. Have fun and explore.
