- It depends on what you like. Just about anything west of Denver is worth seeing. Here are a few ideas from someone who lived in Colorado for 30+ years. 1. Denver is the gateway. West are the mountains. NW is Boulder, one of the nicest little cities anywhere. From Boulder, you can head up to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, which is well worth a day or two. Spectacular. You can also go up to Estes the "back" way through a town called Nederland (instead of Estes). 2. South West of Denver, on Rte 285, you can drive about 50 miles down through ranch and farm country, then suddenly you confront one of the most wide-open vistas available, able to see for miles and open valley (flat) and way in the distance another range of mountains. 3. South of Denver to Colorado Springs area. Has some places of interest. 4. Go West of Denver on the Interstate from where you can branch off for trips to various places like Vail, Aspen, Gunnison (another national park area that is even more remote than RM Ntional Park). 5. If you like the conjunction of scraggy land and desert, head to Grand Junction and west of there.

- Breckenridge then over Hoosier Pass into Alma. Stop and have lunch at the South Park Saloon then keep going until you get to Fairplay. Once in Fairplay stop and a the museum just on the edge of town on the right as you are entering. When you leave there keep going straight until you reach T intersection and go right. Follow the signs to Salida. Visit the shops in Salida/Beuna Vista (great hot springs there too!) and have dinner. Do take the time to go off the beaten path and explore.
