Cheap places to stay in Connecticut or Rhode Island ?

My friends and I are going for a road trip in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut. What are the cheapest places to stay ? Campings ? Motels ? Any idea where to start looking for that on the web ? Thanks

1. There are great campgrounds all around New England- check the Kampgrounds [sic] of America website. Otherwise, stick to hotels. You never know what the weather will be like- the summer is usually quite sunny, but when it rains, IT RAINS.
