What are the most affordable places to live in South Carolina?

I'm in need to move to South Carolina in a rush, and I would like to know what cities and towns are the safest and most affordable. I'm looking for average apartment rates.

1. I am originally from SC. I live in VA now, but I've lived in SC most of my life. I grew up in Lancaster, SC. It is a small town, but it is close to Charlotte, NC so it would be a great place to find a job. It is pretty inexpensive and I think you could rent a house for the same as renting an apartment. Rock Hill, SC is another good place. It is a little bigger. If you are worried about safety and cost I would stay clear of Charleston. It is beautiful, but expensive and has more crime than most places in SC.
