When is the best time of year to travel to Arizona? Never been there... thinking of places like Sedona, etc.?

- Well Phoenix has a wonderful 2 week just before Christmas when the air smells like orange blossoms. Sedona is way northern but offers a pretty drive to Phoenix. Sedona is good the year around. It's expensive. Don't take a bright colored Chevy pickup without a hidden kill switch and quality burglar alarm.
- I have been to AZ in the wintertime. Christmas vacation. It was great. Walked around in shorts and sandals. People looked at us like we were nuts. It was pleasant 70s and 80s. I've there in late summer. September. The day I left to come home it was 107. I love it out there. Beautiful.
- Autumn! A drive through northern Arizona and New Mexico is like no other. And a trip through the Sonoran Desert is best then, too, when the dreadful heat of high summer has abated and the mornings are crisp, clear and cool. You can see forever from the top of an Arizona mesa, and it's an excellent time to call upon our Native cousins. And while you're there, sample some of that heavenly Southwestern cusine, from Tex-mex to genuine Mexican and Native dishes. Aw, son of a snitch! You've made me homesick! Just for that, I'm gonna go climb aboard my Honda Goldwing and head for the aspens of northern New Mexico, and by jingo I'll wind up in Orabi, where I started elementary school back in 1951. And I'll stop frequently along those icy mountain streams with my fly rod, and within an hour after sun-up, I'll be breakfasting on mountain trout! Man, you spend any time at all there and you'll never wanna leave! ....Las Cruces, New Mexico - Go, Bulldogs! ...class of '63
- Arizona is good to visit anytime. It has all kinds of temperatures. Winter gives you the best of both worlds. You can come into Phoenix. There is a whole lot to do. Then you can go to Flagstaff and Ski. Go from the pool in the morning to the slopes in the afternoon. Sedona is a good winter time visit too. It is very Artsy. Have to be a little careful, if you want to go to the Grand Canyon. It is fairly cold in the winter. The Fall or early spring would be better if you wanted to see the Grand Canyon. You need to see the petrified forrest. Some people think of Arizona as a desert. Well It has a Ponderosa Pine forrest that is larger than the states of Maine, Mass, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
- Arizona is beautiful in any season but summer. If you are going to Sedona, I would recommend taking the road from Flagstff to Sedona, 89A. It is a twisting, turining road through a canyon and gives you some amazing views of the red rocks. Then you arrive at Sedona, and the red rocks surround you. There are many amazing views. If you are going to stay there, I would recommend the Best Western on 89A. ALl of the rooms have spectacular views of the rocks and it is very affordable.
- While a winter break in Phoenix is a nice thing for visiting the state and being able to really enjoy it I would sugest the month of May. Temperatures are resonable, pretty much state wide. I lived and worked in Flagstaff and Sedona, and trust me Memorial Day through Labor day is when it is hardest to find a motel room. That is the peak season for visitor from both the US and International visitors.
