  1. Eating: Make reservations NOW (or in the coming weeks) and eat dinner at carmines. Also if you go down to Mulberry there is plenty of good italian restaurants.
  2. I know it's not a restaurant or a romantic place, but I would HIGHLY recommend taking a party shuttle tour. I was there with my wife and friends last September, and the tour was awesome. http://www.newyorkpartyshuttle.com/ As for places to eat, we enjoyed eating at the Hard Rock Cafe while we were there. Also, if you get a chance to go to the top of the Marriot Marquis in Times Square, there's a revolving restaurant up there that gives you a great view of the city's skyline. Going up there at night could provide for a nice romantic evening. Have fun!!!
  3. You have to be more specific. What city are you going to be in?And what kind of places are you looking for? Email me at roofaskid@yahoo.com and you can tell me the cities you are going to be in.And what kind of food you're looking for.
  4. Corner hot dog vendor. Best deal anywhere.
  5. PER SE IS THE MOST ROMANTIC PLACE TO GO! IT TAKES TWO MONTHS TO GET A RESERVATION. AND BRING YOUR WALLET FULL OF CASH BECAUSE IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE.
  6. I know of a great place where you can get a good-size meal for a great price. In Chinatown there is a Chinese restaurant that a lot of people call "5 combination $4." It has no official English name, but it advertises that it is the place to get "5 combination for 4 dollars." You can choose 5 dishes to go on your plate from a buffet-style line and it only costs FOUR dollars. Plus, the drinks are only $1. Essentially, you get an authentic, delicious Chinese meal for only five bucks. Location: Get off at the Canal St. stop from the subway and it's right around there - it is just north of Canal St. on Centre St.. There are also two big lion statues on either side of the entrance. Please try it - it's AWESOME!
  7. there's a book...called" fodors guide to eating in new york"..which you can find in the travel section of a good bookshop...they also have a free website...it's excellent. www.fodors.com ( enjoy the city..you will love it!)
  8. I've been living in NYC for the past 5 years and eat out every day so I hope I'll have some useful advice. First I would recommend getting a copy of the Zagat guide. It has restaurants listed by category ("first date", "corporate expense account", etc.), neighborhood, price, ethnicity, etc. It should give you an idea of the daunting dining choices you have. Here are some of my favorites in categories. Look them up in citysearch or new york magazine: Romantic: Jewel Bako - small/romantic/amazing sushi place in the east village that's a bit on the pricey side ($50+/person). Artisanal - If fondue and gourmet cheese is your thing, then definitely give this place, a few blocks away from the Empire State building, a try. Also pricey. Applewood - in Brooklyn so it maybe a bit of a trek, but the cozy fireplace and fantastic new American food (whatever that means) are totally worth the trip. Besides, there are a lot of cool restaurants/bars in that area too. Babbo - maybe the best meal I've ever had in New York. Hard to get a reservation and expensive ($100+/person), of course. Haven't checked out the trendy new places like Del Posto or Morimoto or Buddakhan or A Voce, but I hear great things about them. Cheap: Cafe Habana in Soho - a neighborhood restaurant that's small and usually requires some wait time, but the corn cob makes the wait totally worth it. Anywhere in Chinatown, pretty much. I'm picky about my Chinese places because I'm Chinese, so I don't think there's any really spectacular place to recommend in Manhattan because all the great places are in Queens (Elmhurst/Flushing) but you can go to New Yeah Shanghai and get a decent meal. Can't beat $3.75 for pork chop on rice. Indian places in Murray Hill (just go to E. 28th st and Lexington Avenue). I like the takeout I've gotten at Curry in a Hurry but never actually dined in. You can also go to the East Village to check out the Baluchi's location there. One of my friends, whose Indian parents owned multiple restaurants, gives it high praise. I agree. The menu prices may look steep, but everything's half-priced. If you want to go somewhere really fun and don't care about the food as much, go to Pana II on E. 6th st & 1st Ave. Pizza (can't come to NYC without trying one of these places) Fornino's - in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the hipster capitol of the world. Probably my favorite pizza place anywhere. Pizzas here are more gourmet than the traditional pizza places like Grimaldi's, Lombardi's or Patsy's (the legendary pizza joints in NYC all of whom were opened by the clan). Dessert: Max Brenners in Union Square - Try to chocolate pizza or the 80's shake. There's a smaller branch in the East Village a few blocks away. That's all I have time to write now. Feel free to email me for more suggestions. My friend has compiled an exhaustive ranked list of bars/restaurants/places to see in NYC. See the isachin source link. Have fun in New York.
