- woodbury commom, its a massive outlet centre, you can get there fairly easily from new youk!
- century 21 downtown near the wtc, canal st for designer knockoffs madison ave for browsing high end stuff, also 5th ave around 57 st to browse more high end stuff (tifanny, cartier, van cleef and arpels) you can get me a souvenir from on of the 5th ave shops :) for more jewelry try 47 st between 5th and 6th ave
- You should check out Macy's and Lord & Taylor - if they're having a sale, you're in luck. Even if there isn't a sale, check out the clearance rack at the back of the departments - you can save 75% off the original price on unsold clothing. There stores are some of the reasons that New York is considered a shopper's paradise: Century 21 http://www.century21deptstores.com/........ Loehmann's http://www.loehmanns.com/skipintrofinal.... Daffy's http://www.daffys.com/index.cfm......... Filene's Basement http://www.filenesbasement.com/master.ht... Barney's http://www.barneys.com/b/;jsessionid=dkj... The East Village has lots of little shops/independant designer boutiques. Try Tokio 7 at 64 East 7th Street at First Avenue - it's a designer consignment shop. It can get very crowded, but you can find things here you won't see anywhere else. If you like Denim, look at Famous Friends at 616 East 9th Street (between Avenues B and C) Chinatown for knockoff bags, scarves, accessories and stocking stuffer souveniers.
- Century 21 Bloomingdales Saks on 5th Avenue Canal Street [pocketbooks] H&M is a MUST!! Pretty much anything on 5th Avenue! ♥
- the most elegant place to shop is bergdorf goodman on 5th & 57th street. barneys on madison avenue is nice. of course the designer boutiques on madison and fifth avenues. saks fifth avenue on 5th for bargains...loehmanns, century21, filenes basement, ( michaels & encore both excellent consignment shops on madison avenue) you can go into any area of manhattan... the upper east side is gorgeous....( like mayfair..kensington) midtown is touristy & congested....( central london) downtown is fun & hip ( notting hill) east village..funky ( soho) lower east side ..gentrified ( east london) downtown ..sad..ever since 9/11 upper west side ...some parts are nice.. best to not go above 96th street .( upper east side & upper west side)
- Pick up a couple of shopping tours from TailoredTours.com. They come with store maps and also point out interesting sights and authentic restaurants in the shopping areas. Madison Ave. and Fifth Ave. have the same stores (although Madison Ave. has 4 times the number of stores). The difference is that Madison is for locals while Fifth is for tourists. There's a lot of shopping on 34th St. around Macy's. If you're going to do an outlet mall, Woodbury's great but Jersey Gardens is much closer (right near Newark Airport) and has about the same number of stores. You can catch a bus direct to Jersey Gardens from the Port Authority Bus Terminal at 8th Ave. and 42nd St. It costs maybe a couple of bucks. As far as places to avoid, stay below 96th St. on the Upper East Side and below 125th St. on the Upper West Side. The Lower East Side can be a little sketchy, as can the area along the Hudson River west of Times Square. That said, just about anyplace in Manhattan is safe during the day. Believe it or not, New York is the second-safest big city in the U.S. (after San Jose), so forget your worries and just have fun!
- Macy's if you so straight to the visitor centre you can get a10% discount card which you can use as many times as you are there great bonus.
