  1. Central park Zoo
  2. Planet Hollywood Times square went there I LOVED IT!!!!!!!
  3. Riding on one of those bikes that are a hugh circle with serveral other epople. When you get to times squre, you'll see it. But i would enjoy taking someone i know to the MET musem and spending my day there.
  4. Although native New Yorkers may have some better choices, here would be my favorite places and activities based on past visits: 1) Empire State Building after dark on a clear night. There's often no line after the summer vacation season ends, especially nearer to closing. The area is a little barren after business hours, but I still make the trek. It brings back many memories for me. For others, it's perhaps one of the greatest movie sets in the world (e.g., "Sleepless in Seattle"): http://www.esbnyc.com/tourism/tourism_facts_inthemovies.cfm?CFID=14220&CFTOKEN=1408 2) Museum of Modern Art Sculpture Art. There is no place in NYC where I would rather eat lunch, but I love sculpture and am in a special place when there. I've never added it up, but there might be hundreds of millions of dollars worth of sculptures there. http://www.pps.org/great_public_spaces/one?public_place_id=857 3) Statue of Liberty, especially if your ancestors passed by it on their way into America. Ditto, Ellis Island. 4) Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, celebrating its 75th anniversary (last performance is Dec. 30, so you may have limited performances to attend and tickets may be hard to obtain -- buy them soon if you plan to catch the show) & Rockefeller Center and the Christmas Tree after dark: http://christmas.radiocity.com/ http://www.nyctourist.com/xmas_rockcenter1.htm 5) Frances Tauvern Museum and Restaurant. This is perhaps the most historic site in NYC -- the actual location where many of our Founding Fathers had their "last supper" together. In this age of jet travel, freeways, telephones and the internet, it's hard to remember an age when it took weeks if not a month to travel just hundreds of miles. Imagine saying goodbye for possibly the last time to those with whom you had risked life and liberty through great perils for almost a decade! This was the place where the decision was finalized that America would be a democracy and not a monarchy, as the conquering general of the Revolution bid his farewell to his officers (Washington had already avowed his support for the nascent American democracy in the famous Newburgh incident). http://www.frauncestavernmuseum.org/mus_farewell.html http://www.frauncestavern.com/index2.htm http://www.earlyamerica.com/review/fall97/wshngton.html Personally, I enjoy a night in Greenwich Village and some day would like to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan. You also should consider seeing a Broadway play. Carnegie Hall is a surprisingly intimate and certainly historic venue, and don't overlook the many other great museums in NYC. Catching a 3D movie at the Lincoln Square Imax also is fun, if you have sufficient time and a movie of interest (I saw a film about dinosaurs, enjoyed having a T-Rex get in my face (and so did the kids), and noted a couple celebrities in the audience). Personally, I would rather visit Grand Central Station than St. Patrick's (I've been to many, many cathedrals around the world) or the U.N., but I have been to all three and all would be worthwhile if there weren't so many things to do in NYC. If you plan to attend a mass at St. Patrick's, that would be a different matter. There are so many excellent stores and restaurants, that you perhaps should just buy some guides. Christmas season in NYC is a great time to just walk around IMO, weather permitting (cold rain is a real damper). Keep in mind that you will be in New York during the holidays and you may want to plan your trip around that special season, and save other activities for warmer weather on another trip. Have a great time and Happy 2008!
