new york folk: best places to shop in the city, cheap?

emphasis on the cheap part, I'm going to be in town tomorrow, and want to know what you think are the best, uber cheap, places to shop in nyc. Also, what are your suggestions on some good vintage shops? sorry, Im already going to Katz Deli

1. Carmines is a recommended place to eat. We have been informed by a family friend that when we go to see the Rocketts show to eat there cause they have excellent food.

3. The very best place to shop cheaply, ironically, is the Upper East Side. It's a bit of a paradox, because the UES is one of the wealthiest parts of Manhattan. It also, however, is home to some of the best hospitals in the country, and virtually every one of them operates a thrift store, and this is where you'll find your bargains. I know what you're thinking: You wanted slick, NYC shopping, right? You'll find it at places like Housing Works, the Arthritis Foundation Store, and close to a dozen others concentrated around Third Avenue between 77th and 87th Streets. The wealthy denizens of this exclusive enclave donate their Barneys, Armani, Banana Republic and their Joseph Abboud to these places, and they're yours for the having for just pennies on the dollar.
