best places to live

New York City--Best places to stay, eat, sites to see, etc.?

I will be heading to NYC for the first time over spring break in March of 2007. I was just wondering what are some of the BEST things to visit while in the city! Thanks!

  1. no id rather go to CT
  2. statue of liberty, empire state building, central park, rocketfeller center, city hall, columbas circle, -theres places outside the city i think u might enjoy going. All you have to do is get on train with a couple of friends and go to different stops and check out what each little town has.

  5. I love NYC! Here are some ideas of what you can do while in NYC. First, get a good tour map. Then I recommend you take the BIG APPLE double decker tour bus for an overview of the city. There are several different neighborhoods so I'll highlight these and what to see: Upper East Side: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim, Whitney Museum. Walk up and down Madison Avenue for awesome shops and boutiques 96th - 57th st. Walk Park Avenue for architecture all the way to Grand Central Terminal and see the treasures located within. Walk along 5th Avenue to see/go in and out of Central Park - go for a run, go to the Central Park Zoo, go to the Carousel, go for a gondola ride at the boat house. UPPER WEST SIDE: Museum of Natural History -a must! on Central Park West, Walk along Columbus Avenue. Visit the West side of Central Park and pay respects to John Lennon's Strawberry Fields. MIDTOWN: Shopping - 57th St (Chanel and the gang), Fifth Avenue - must see Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks and FAO Schwartz - many other fun stores. St. Patrick's Cathedral Museum of Modern Art Sony Bldg Rockefeller Center Go west to awesome new Time Warner center and visit the new Mandarin Hotel bar/restaurant for awesome view and treats! Oh, Bloomingdale's is on 59th St and Lexington. Empire State Bldg. The Intrepid Aircraft Museum is fascinating and on the West side...worth the visit even if you have no kids. CHELSEA: Walk around the blooming area sprouting awesome restaurants and shops. Chelsea Pier is fun. WALL ST: Pay respects to the 9/11 victims and heroes at the WTC site., Walk Wall St., visit the Chase Hdqtrs, Federal Reserve. Seaport area is great to see. THE VILLAGE: Funky shops in the West Village. Walk through the NYU Washington Square Park. The East Village has some shops from new artists and designers SOHO: Great galleries and shops on n off West Broadway. Walk thru to Little Italy for awesome meals and desserts...walk through Chinatown. CANAL STREET has stall after stall of Designer "copies"...bring cash and bargain and watch your purse! These should put an awesome smile on your face. Bring your camera and takes lots of photos to remember your trip. You'll have a blast! OH...BUY this weekly magazine: TIMEOUT NEW YORK on any newstand to see what's going on each week/day. :)
  6. I'm going that time,too.
  7. Of course you can go to all the muesums and sites. The best muesum is the MoMa- its not as stuffy. I've never been to any of the really tourist sites like Statue of Liberty but I hear its beautiful. Of course, your gonna check out those things so I thought I'd give you stuff that New Yorkers like to do rather than tourists... Resturants: A new one comes out like every 20 minutes but my all-time favorites are: 1. Serafinas: 79th and Madison. It is an Italian resturant and it is REALLY REALLY amazing. Its a good family resturant without all the cutesy stuff and annoying 4 year olds you usually get at family resturants. Really good wine list too. 2. Butter: A very famous resturant. Kind of on the expensive side, but worth it. People say many celebs eat there but I go frequently and never seen anyone that famous. It is downtown on Lafayette St. Its kind of American-Bistro food. 3. Geisha: My favortie sushi place in the whole city. The resturant design is also the coolest thing I have ever seen. Its on 61st and Madison 4. Ollies: A very good place for lunch. Its Chinese food but not your typical chinese food, its really yummy too. Theres a couple in the city, especially on the West Side. One on 68th and Broadway and another on 84th and Broadway. 5. Balthazar: Really good and really 'hip'. Its on Soho on Spring St and Broadway. Kind of French/bistro. Shopping: Everybody always hits up Midtown, Chanel, Escada, Prada, etc. While yeah they are great, unless your actually THAT rich its a total tourist trap. I would stick to downtown or on the Upper West Side on Amsterdam Ave because they are a lot of cute boutiques. Precision on 74th and 3rd is also one of my favorite stores. They sell clothes like J Brand, Alice and Olivia, C&C, etc. Nightlife: I dont know your age but usually if your 17 and older, getting into a bar/lounge is no problem. Its kind of sick. A lot of clubs also have teen nights though, especially during spring break. 1. Avalon: GREAT teen nights. Its in a church and has 3 different dancing rooms, plus a bar/lounge, I love it. The bouncers can be kind of mean sometimes though. Its on 27th and 9th if I'm not mistaken. 2. Stereo: Such a great club. Love, love, love it. Its on 29th and 10th. 3. 49 Grove: Kind of a more hip-hipish club, but still a great place. Its on Grove St. 4. Home: my favorite. They also have another club, "The Guest House", both killer places. its on 27th and 10th. hope you have a good time! if you need any more info, feel free to message me.
