Where are the best places to take children in new york?

we will be in New York for 4 days in May 2007 we are landing in Newark and that's as far as we have got. We would like to do the river trip to see the statue of liberty. Our children are 7 and 9 could anyone give us tips on a hotel to stay, great things to show them/do with them, fun restraunts and any extras like booking tickets ahead to avoid a que. Thank you

  1. The Natural History Museum is a must-see, especially if you can pair it with seeing Night at the Museum at the movies. The kids would probably like going to the top of the Empire State Building, too. Also, consider using one of the local cheap-ticket services to get some Broadway tickets for a fun show. Lots of shows are kid-friendly and fun. If you're going in May, then baseball season will be here, so you might also consider taking the kids to a Yankees game (or a Mets game, but Yankee Stadium has more history).
  2. Central Park Zoo is a must!!
  3. If either of your children loves dolls, American Girl is a must - she can bring her doll and have it's hair done - buy your daughter and her doll matching outfits.http://www.americangirlplace.com/agp_ny_... American Girl is on Fifth Avenue and 49th Street. It's at Rockefeller Center, very close to Saks. Top of the Rock at 30 Rockefeller - Fifth Avenue and 50th Street - great observatory - costs less, shorter lines and better view than the Empire State Building; If you are planning to have a meal or tea or see the show at American Girl, make your reservations well in advance. They get booked up. It's the "in" spot for little girls' (and their dolls) birthday parties - for the daughters of well-to-do people. Your daughter will probably remember this all her life. Have a great time. The Children's Museum on 83rd and Broadway - interactive exhibits http://www.cmom.org/ The Sony Wonder Lab on Madison and 56th - great place and IT'S FREE http://www.nyas.org/snc/update.asp Serendipity on East 60th and Third Avenue (near Bloomingdale's) It's overpriced and the lines can be ridiculous, but they have these huge ice cream concoctions and the kids love this place. Down the block is Dylan's candy http://www.serendipity3.com/ If you're down there, and if it's running, the kids would love to ride the Skytram to Roosevelt Island ($2.00) - it's part of the New York City transportation system - 59th Street and First Avenue. Alice's Tea Cup - two locations ; 73rd and Columbus and 64th and Lexington http://www.alicesteacup.com/ The Bronx Zoo The Museum of Natural History (what child doesn't love dinosaurs?) The Staten Island Ferry (free) goes from Manhattan to Brooklyn. By May, the Water Taxi is running - great ride to take to see the skyline. Have a great trip.

  5. The Central Park Zoo is amazing! FAO Schwartz is fun too! lots of toys out for the kids to play with. There is alot for kids to do in NYC, you just have to remember that you will be walking ALOT! So make sure they have great shoes and you take potty breaks when you can. lol ENJOY!
