what are the best places to visit in new york?

  1. There's no right answer to this, so I'm going to start listing off a few places that you should visit if you're a touristy type of person or a true nitty-gritty person who wants to get the full effect of NYC. Tourists: 1. Statue of Liberty - great ferry ride and a wonderful museum on Ellis Island. 2. Empire State Building - if it's good enough for King Kong, it's good enough for me. Also, there's a nice little Hawaiin/Mexican restaurant right underneath it, try it out, get the bean burritos with potatoes, it's amazing. 3. 34th Street Macy's 4. Times Square - also visit the nearby Bryant Park 5. NBC Studios - Rockefeller Center 6. Central Park (near it there's also the Apple Store that is open 24/7) & FAO Schwarz - so walk down 5th avenue pretty much starting from 47th street (Rockefeller Center) and make your way up the block, on the way you'll see Trump Plaza and several big named stores that are fun to window-shop in. Since you're a girl, why not also stop in at Tiffany's. And then before you know it, you're looking at Central Park. Non-Touristy/Semi-Touristy 1. Greenwich Village - NYU Campus, tons of walkable stores, tattoo parlors, piercing joints, restaurants, music venues & comedy clubs. 2. SoHo - not touristy at all, but go down to Varick Street and do some shopping 3. Chinatown - amazing 4. East Village - like Greenwich Village but meant more for the organic, grassroots, artistic type 5. There are several plays & musicals always going on around NYC as well. If you want more information, just visit one of the NYC Tourist Websites for all the addresses and such. I believe http://www.nyc.gov will have a lot of information that you seek as far as directions. Another such site is http://www.hopstop.com which will give you walking & subway directions. Hope this has helped. Have fun while you're here and remember, New Yorkers are the most helpful people in the world, they just might not have time to give you a smile on the streets, but that doesn't make them any less polite.
