What are the safest cities with best schools to live near the Nashville area?

We are moving to Tennesee We both need to work in Nashville but don't want to live in the city. We are currently in San Diego, so a little commute won't bother us. What are the safest cities with the best schools? We have a two year old and those are the most important factors in moving to me. We've heard Hendersonville and Kingston Srpings.. Any ideas?
