Best places to see in New York City and Manhattan?

Public Comments

  1. Manhattan (Lower)--World Trade Center site, boat to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty (same boat, one price--warning LONG lines may result in waits of two hours or more); South Street Seaport; China Town (eat at Wo Hop on Mott Street), Midtown: United Nations (gift shop has no sales tax); Empire State Building; Times Square (many interesting foreign and other restaurants on side streets), Rockefeller Center Uptown: FAO Schwartz (enormous hands on toy store with ice cream parlor); Central Park and zoo, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Natural History/Rose Space Center Way Uptown: The Cloisters (most beautiful spot in NYC and a fine museum); Dyckman House (British army HQ in the Revolution Bronx: Zoo; Botanical Gardens Brooklyn: Aquarium; Coney Island Queens: Bowne House (stop on Underground Railroad, good restaurants within a couple blocks), Flushing Meadow Park with Hall of Science and a zoo where you can walk at treetop level to see the birds Staten Island: Richmondtown Restoration (restored colonial village); Marchais Tibetan Museum (only Tibetan museum in the USA)
  2. Well I'd recommend going to: Chinatown- (tons of restaurants and stores with interesting things to look at) Get on the N, R, or Q train and get off at Canal or get off at Canal street on the 1 or 9 train Metropolitan Museum of Art- Free practically because you just give a suggested donation. See Picasso and all sorts of things. Bronx Zoo- Such a great zoo although not in Manhattan. It's pricey but it's fantastic! Times Square - it's pretty much a huge commercial but if you've never been you can't go to NYC without going there. See a play (Broadway or otherwise, just pick up a newspaper and see what's playing) Central Park- this is a really great park, one of the best in the world and I'd recommend ice skating there. They have a rink right in the middle Check out these neighborhoods too: Harlem, the lower East Side, Soho, Greenwich Village.. When going to NYC don't just "do stuff" but be sure to just walk around! Good luck and have fun
