  3. I'm a native Mainer, and I have to say that anywhere in the southern part of the state is going to be expensive. I hate the city too, but luckily Portland still has a definite small town feel to it :) If you haven't already seen it, the Wikipedia entry for it is pretty cool :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland%2C_Maine Scarborough is like a suburb of Portland, and is super nice. Depending on where you are in Scarborough, it's about 5-15 minutes outside the city. Saco is also nice, it is sort of a sister town to Biddeford, formerly a big industrial/factory type area. It's about 15-25 minutes away from the city. I grew up in Sanford/Springvale, and it wasn't a bad place to live. Stupid city politics, as in everywhere else, but it seems to be turning itself around. The schools are mediochre, and the HS has always had a high pregnancy rate. I don't know if that's an issue for you or not. Sanford is 45-60 mins away from the city, depending on where you are going. Alfred is on the other side of Sanford, before Biddeford. It started out as a parish of Sanford back in the day. Nice, really, really quaint. Definitely growing, with more stores popping up. I remember when it was a little podunk town LoL. About 25-45 minutes away from P-land. The closer you move to the ocean, the more expensive it will be, and the more you will have to deal with IDIOT tourists. York, Wells and Ogunquit are insane in the summer time, and I could never imagine living there.
  4. Camden is real nice with lots of waterfront restaurants.
