best places to live in Portland OR?
me and my husband are going to be moving to Portland from California and we just wanted to know some of your opinions on the best places to live in the Portland OR area

- I always wanted to live downtown, but couldn't afford it. If you want to get around by mass transit, find a place close to a light rail (MAX) stop or a bus that runs every fifteen minutes, even on weekends. Portland has horrible road network, so you might as well live way out in the suburbs if you plan on going everywhere by car. The suburbs are all about the same, but it's cheapest in Vancouver or very far from Portland (like Hillsboro or Tualitin).
- I used to live in South East Portland - across the river from downtown. There are a lot of nice and ecletic neighborhoods there and iti is cheaper than downtown, the Northwest and the Pearl District. It is also very easy to get anywhere by bus in the SE - only 15-20 minutes to downtown in most places. Also lots of trees and quite (generally) streets. Northeast Portland around Alberta is also nice, but takes longer to get downtown.
- There are many great neighborhoods. I would look at Milwaukee they are building the light rail there within the next couple years so the property values will eventually go up a lot in coming years. It is only about 10 minute commute by car. The northeast is also developing quickly and most people have just recently moved to the neighborhood. A word of advice though do not talk a lot about coming from California. People are very sensitive to so many people moving here from out of state especially California. They have been driving the price of housing up and congesting the highways. There used to be an official state sign on the Oregon/ California border that said "Thanks for visiting please do not stay"
