Socialism/Liberalism, how many opponents of "free" healthcare have actually experienced it.?
I just asked the question on why many people hate liberals and socialists here, many felt obligated to attack the free healthcare policy which is perfectly fine cause it got me thinking. I am Canadian so my experiences do differ. First of all I do read current news, and no not only Canadian, but from Associated Press, CNN, BBC and other random news outlets. On the issue of taxes in Canada, the highest tax rate is 16% for purchases and 7% is the lowest, The property and income taxes in Canada are comparable or either lower than many US locations. It just happens to have a different distribution of cash flow, comparatively to US, Canada doesn't spend on military. Yet because of its socialist and liberal propaganda, it and scandanavian countries have been listed as the best places in the world to live along with having longer lifespans

- I don't need a fee hand out; and I won't pay for your health care buddy. Any politician with this in mind will loose hands down.
- ... exactly... well stated... also, if you mix in our average monthly insurance health costs with our tax rate... it's much higher than most nations tax rate I would be willing to bet they are all probably going to talk about "a Canadian 'friend' who had to wait 3 months for surgery"... which from I understand... is very uncommon Ronald Reagan: just curious... did you go to a public school? that's a "free hand out"... isn't it?
- well I am not covered but the girl that is a baby factory is. the health care system here in the states went to hell when HMOs came into the act. You can't even find a American Dr anymore. They are all form some foren country. And only in the profession for the money
- How long do you have to wait for medical procedures? I've seen more than a few people come into the US for something like a cat scan because they have to wait weeks or even months to get one in Canada. "Free" doesn't always mean "better". Actually, when the government is running the show (regardless of which party is in charge), it usually makes things worse. (You got me g! And yes, it is common. More common than you'd like to admit.) g - Hmmm, public education is a "free" handout? Well with a dropout rate of up to 80% in some cities, I really wouldn't want to equate that quality to "free" healtcare. If we'd have an 80% death rate, I'll pay for my own insurance.
- I lived with free health care for 20 years while in the US Army. For the most part, I got excellent care. I ran into a few bad doctors and a lot of good ones. My wife gave birth to two of our three kids in military hospitals and always received excellent care. I spent 8 days in a military hospital for a back operation and could not have possibly asked for a better doctor or staff. I've been out for 12 years and have been thru a variety of health problems as has my wife. We've always had excellent care but dealing with insurance is a nightmare. They do everything they can to deny payment and constantly make you fill out reams and reams of paper. I would welcome free health care again with open arms. I have no idea why people are against it.
- I'm no expert; these are just some of my first thoughts. I think that here in the U.S. there is a strong cultural bias toward "pulling oneself by one's own bootstraps". In other words, do for yourself and for your family; if you cannot, it's your own fault. Therefore, why should the government and other citizens be made responsible for others' lack of ability, will, etc? Clearly, these biases are born of ignorance and, I believe, an underlying reason for the attacks on health care for all. It's very sad, really. Anyway, my first thoughts.
- I have experienced "free" health care in Germany and believe you get what you pay for. My brother wasn't given a high enough dose of medicine to control his disease so the doctors could chart the progress of the very painful disease without telling him much less asking permission. Many other instances of medical malpractice in the family in Germany. Give me free enterprise.
- Once again my fellow Americans are walking lock stock and barrel with the "Fox" no mind approach to life. There's this weird thing that Americans do now ..that's mind boggling.. First we don't have any concept about anywhere other than our own backyard metaphorically speaking and even though we are paying through our broken noses for private healthcare.. it's better than your "Socialist programs comrad" and we then use an example of someone wealthy from another country coming here for a procedure because we have the best health care... that is totally false ! In fact if you look at the AMI's own statistics you will see that visits to the US for any kind of medical treatment except for plastic surgery ( of course ) has been declining since the early 90's... people just watch and believe what their empire tells them... without question...
