Best place to live and work in North Carolina?

We are U.S citizen living overseas thinking about moving back to the U.S. North Carolina is my husbands 1st choice. What are the best places to live? The best neighborhoods (reasonable prices)?

2. maiden or newton 20,000-150,000 are the prices of homes, charlotte is way to busy and noisy
3. Asheville NC is a wonderful area to relocate to, depending on what your profession is.
