Where is the best place to live in Australia?
I am thinking of moving from Canada to Australia for 1 year with my husband, my sister and her husband. I want to do some working and some travelling. We want to work for 3 months, and then vacation for 1 month and so on for 1 year. For the time we are working, what do you think would be the best place to make good money and not very expensive to live (maybe impossible!) If anyone could give some advise, it would be greatly appreciated!!

- Pretty hard to say, as in what do you want to do for work, what are your interests and, Oz is a great place to live and travel! One year will be too short. Eastcoast has the most possibilities. Sydney is nice and central, with good weather all year around. there's work everywhere, if you don't mind doing anything, but I guess that counts for Canada as well if I'd wanna go there. Elaborate on interests and what kind of work.
- Well this is a question that could have a vaste amount of answers. As far as I'm concerned there are no best place in Australia. Each place is unique and different. I live on The Gold Coast and love it. Great weather all year around fabulous beaches . It all depends on what sort of work you want . In the Tropics ie[Cairns Darwin] from April to September is the dry season also the tourist season around april there is quite a few extra jobs going in the tourist industry, Western Australia has a huge amount of people that work in The Mining industry. Have you thought of travelling Australia in a campervan , many people do this and pick up work as they go then move on as they want Out back stations [large cattle ranches] and jobs picking fruit attract many travellers.
- It depends on what sort of work you want, but there are plenty of jobs available all over Australia. Unemployment is at record lows. Most regional areas have lots of work available and inexpensive housing, especially in the mining towns all around Australia, where salaries are very high at the moment (although the housing is a bit dearer in these boom mining towns). Sydney is expensive to live, and also to a lesser extent Melbourne, but they are great to visit. Travel to the north in the Australian winter, and the south in summer. In general coastal areas are nicest for travelling/tourism. Perhaps consider 4 months in Queensland, 4 months in Tasmania, and 4 months in the Perth area. This should give you a good selection of the different areas of Australia. Have fun
- The Gold Coast, Queensland is Awesome, there would be more jobs in Sydney and Melbourne, but if you're gonna be in Oz then you definately have to spend some time on the Gold Coast.
- South East Queensland is the best in my opinion, but I am bias.
- I am a Queenslander (by birth - and remain so - for all time)... grew up there - so anywhere in QLD would be great... I currently live in Lake Macquarie (near Newcastle NSW). Check it out on the web and see what you think here's our coucils site. http://www.lakemac.com.au/ Personally I like the weather on the Atherton Tablelands (west of Cairns) best - or Palm Cove just north of Cairns. The Gold Coast is always popular - but it has been under some very nasty water restrictions owing to the drought combined with the population growth - you would want to check out how much it has lifted Mum and Dad were living on 2 HUGE tanks but most people really suffered. 3 minute showers were mandatory. No hosing the garden, no washing the car with a hose. heaps of restrictions - where as here - not a peep of a restriction.
- I'd go along with jennifer h and you might want to check out a network called WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms) find out more at www.wwoof.com.au Cheers
