Why does the press misrepresent the Latino vote as being pro-Hilary?

The truth is that it was a Latino woman who asked Obama: "Latinos in Iowa want to know what we can do to convince you to run for president?" The event took place at Senator Harkin's annual steak-fry before Obama declared his candidacy. I believe that was November 2006. I remember seeing it on CNN and later on Larry King Live during an Obama interview. And of course Obama won the Iowa primary. Anyone else see the CNN piece or the Larry King interview? Do you have a copy or know where to get it?

Public Comments

  1. Actually I know a lot of Latinos (Cuban specifically) who are republicans because they are against liars like Castro and Chavez
  2. Yes Luv, you have hittt the nail on the head, the latino vote is also for Obama.
  3. polling in latino communities indicates that but i guess it would be subject to different areas.
  4. I'd say that is one thing the mainstream media is getting right. Maybe the only thing.
  5. Texas Latino's hate Blacks My Wife is Black so I know from first hand experience Texas latino's are nothing more than "modern day slaves" to white male owned businesses. $1.05 an hour is modern day slavery and texas latinos are too dumb to know it.
  6. They don't. The overwhelming majority support Hillary. Take a look at the primaries. CNN is so pro-Obama, so biased, I wouldn't listen to what they say. Excuse me Jose, but my husband is Argentinian, so I'm part of the Latino community, and am not Latina, and your comments are demeaning and offensive.
  7. They show latinos supporting Hillary because exit polls show that Hillary has won more of the latino vote. That is not a bad thing. It shows Hillary has a weakness on the immigration issue.
  8. Its not being misrepresented Hillary is heavily supported by the Hispanic Community. I think some it is because of the work the Clintons do in South TX which is predominantly Hispanic /Mexican American. Jose have you ever lived in TX? What on earth are you talking about?
  9. Polls suggest more Latinos support Hillary than Obama. It is as simple as that. One meeting in Iowa does not override dozens of polls taken all over the country. That said, I agree with you that the press over-states this. Just because more Latinos support Hillary does not mean that they all do.
  10. The press isn't misrepresenting anything. Latinos have cast significantly more votes for Clinton over Obama in the primaries. Clinton acknowledges this fact, Obama acknowledges it, and so does the DNC. Your story about one Latino woman in Iowa doesn't really change the very real voting patterns of millions of Latinos across the country. What's disputed is the *reason* Latinos are more likely to vote for Hillary. People come up with all sorts of reasons that serve their own political agendas. But the only people who really know are the Latino voters themselves. And, of course, we must keep in mind the millions of Latinos who have voted for Obama -- these people matter. They just happen to be a smaller number.
