Does Rasism still exsist in places like South Carolina?

For some reason I am finding that black men are getting extremely harsh sentences for crimes that would no hold so much weight here in NY. I am aware that NY is more leniant but I feel that racism is still in exsistance in SC. Could it be their still mad over the confederate war?

1. Racism exists everywhere. It may be worst in South Carolina due to the larger gap between rich white americans and poor black americans.

4. I do believe that race still plays a roll in all areas of America. Not just in SC but everywhere. It could be that there is not a problem with prison overcrowding in certain areas of the country. Therefore they impose the correct sentence upon conviction. Could you give an example of some cases where what you are saying has happened or is this just a made up thing? I believe that anyone regardless of age, race, or whatever be given the maximum sentence when convicted. We should build more work prisons and stop sending jobs overseas to try to save money. Pay the convicts 30 cents an hour to work and make products that we use in this country.
5. There is racism everywhere in the United States. For example some places like Hawaii where I lived as a white man many of those of Asian extraction who are the majority dislike whites and blacks, etc. Also whites are often hated by blacks or Hispanics where I live in Massachusetts though it's less so than when I lived in California some fifteen years ago in Los Angeles, which was a big melting pot where everyone tried to get along - but I was there for the riots and it was really poor people looting... anyway you're right to say racism exists against blacks -- I know it does but to say there are people who don't dislike whites, Native Americans, Asians or Hispanics is being very foolish (of the various other races) ... it is just a sad fact in our country though it is better than it was decades ago... take care... We had a case about ten years ago when I returned to the area of western Massachusetts where a man who was from a wealthy family was murdered. He was white - his white wife and her black boyfriend were separately charged for murder... they had them on tape... but I guess his voice was more incriminating and she probably had an all white jury in her trial but sad to say the wealthy wife got off free and the black boyfriend whose trial was first got life in prison.. so racism exists up North also in trials up here too where money and race can get someone off even when it looks pretty bad -- I don't know what the evidence was against her but she got a fortune when she got out of jail...
