Small cities in California?

I'm just bored right now. I guess this is my form of fantasizing. I'm not really planning on moving anytime soon. Anyway, I'm just curious as to nice small cities anywhere in California. I guess small would be 50,000 or below, I'm not sure. I live in Los Angeles, and sometime I feel like getting away. I realize that having lived in the city my whole life I probably would not like small city life, but I can always take a look online, right?

  1. Absolutely! I often fantasize about places I would like to go or to move to. I am sure there are days in L.A. traffic where you would rather be anywhere else! :) Check out this site for a listing of small California cities: http://www.city-data.com/city/California2.html In my experience, it is great to find a small city that is close(enough) to a larger one, so that you have access to what is great about a large city, but, don't have to live there. I work at a travel company based out of California and so have been learning a lot about cities around here. Here are some that you should check out. Sonoma, California(can't beat the wine country) Monterey, CA Cambria, CA Also, I recently discovered Ashland, Oregon, right across the California border which I am fantasizing about moving to! Have fun and happy travels! -Kango Traveler
  2. Hi, I know how you feel. I now live in Orange County and the urban nightmare often gets to me, too. I lived for 5 years in Arcata, California. Up North of Eureka on the coast. Beautiful little town of 30,000 or so. If there was any decent work up there I'd move back in a flash! I really like Truckee, too, though I've never lived there. I had friends who lived there for awhile. Up in ski country. You have to deal with the winter snows, but its gorgeous. My brother lives in Cloverdale, which is North of San Francisco on the edge of wine country. That's a really nice, quiet, friendly town too. He used to work in the wine industry and now has his own business. Folsom, East of Sacramento, is another nice town I've stayed in every once in awhile. Lots of nice little towns like that scattered along the edge of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Yes, I'm planning on moving North as soon as I am able. Already have a place picked out just just East of Sacramento. I can hardly wait! Good luck to you!
