best places to live

Are there any cheaper and safe cities in California?

My mom is relocating for health reasons, and is considering california, but some places are way to expensive. Could anyone reccomend a city or town that is cheaper and safer? Ive heard san diego is nice, but is very expensive? I should also add that she will be renting, not buying. 1 bedroom for around 1100-1300, is this possible, and where is it possible? compton is unsafe. im not an idiot, thank you.

  1. Yes, most of Northern California is still reasonable.
  2. try compton
  3. You heard right. It is very expensive. And maybe not as safe as you'd like. Do some research through the US census bureau about crime stats. Look at several areas and compare. Maybe Phoenix area or parts of Texas are better. Check out Robson Ranch communities in those states. If dollars are an issue, there aren't very many more expensive areas than SD she could choose.
  4. If you want somewhere SAFE and CHEAP, try the Midwest! There are still small towns where NO ONE locks their doors; all the neighbors watch out for one another; and $1000 dollars will BUY you 2 houses! We have FRESH air and wide open spaces.
  5. You can get an apartment for that price range in san diego, it just wont be a luxury building or anything. Privately owned by landlords. fyi, i have no idea why anyone would belive $1000.00 would buy someone 2 houses. $500 for a house? lol. everyone and there brother would be flocking out there to snatch one. There wouldnt be enough homes for all the buyers waiting.
  6. Average rent in California is $1,700.00 this is LA county. Try the Archstone Apartments, however they have some cheaper and are very nice. They are all over Los angeles. check the internet archstoneapartments.com
  7. A lot of people think of security buildings and such, places with pools, tennis courts and/or gyms, but not everyone can live there, and not everyone is looking for a place like that. Dont let "$1700" scare you away. I live in San Diego and have a 2 bedroom apartment that I pay 1100 each month. Its in a private home, not operated by management, just a man who owns the place. You would need to look in the newspapers, not online at places like rent.com and such, those are mangement buildings that cost an arm and a leg. My neighborhood isnt A+, but yet, it isnt dangerville, it -isnt- crawling with roaches and rats and it IS decently peaceful.
