Are there any affordable cities or towns in California that are safe aswell?
As a renter, I would need something affordable, but not necessarily a place that Im going to be shot in the face when I leave my doorstep. o.o Does anyone live in California in a decent town or city and could tell me about it?

- Redding, California up north is a very nice city as well as all the surrounding area. Also you have Modesto, Oakdale, near Yosemite, Fresno, Bakersfield all are affordable and nice.
- Of course there are safe and affordable cities in California. Just not anywhere near Los Angeles or San Francisco. It depends on what you mean by "affordable" of course. But real estate in the Sacramento and Palm Springs areas are still reasonable. That is, there are still large houses available for $200,000 to $250,000. And Redding and Bakersfield remain relatively cheap even in comparison to that.
- Eureka, CA is a nice little city located right on a bay in northern CA...When I say northern I mean WAY up there about 4.5 hours from SF. Other options in Norcal are Arcata, McKinleyville, Crescent City. They are all very safe Smaller cities that you are sure to love. Another plus is that they are all on the Coast!
- you don't mention what you consider affordable.. California is not cheap.. We are taxed to death in some areas.. but still a great place to live and work.. Our income is rather high.. so affordable to me might not be affordable to you.. I like Santa Rosa Ca, and a lot of Northern Ca cities.. Concord, Pleasant Hill, Benicia, Brentwood, Oakley, Livermore, Napa, Petaluma. Contact the chamber of commerce in each city.. Of course the pamplets will tell you each city is great.. but decide for yourself.. Good luck..
- Marin on is pretty safe, but cost wise, north of marin county. Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Arcata or anywhere else in Humboldt County. Lived here my whole life and never had a problem. Once you get north of marin county, the prices are decent and there are many safe friendly neighborhoods up the coast.
