Is tucson a "smart" place to live for single mom of one?money wise?

I am single mom of one may move to Tucson. Friend and I are going there June 1st to check it out. What areas are good to live and jobs? I have a CDL and can drive semis. Im also interested in cosmetology school. For the most part is it safe? Is it a "smart" place to live? Money wise?

1. Tucson is an afforable city, as well as the outskirts of the area. Having a CDL is also great for the area being that I-10 runs right through Tucson. I live 90 minutes West of Tucson, so I can't give you more specific details other than knowing that the Ampitheater school district is pretty good! I might suggest you post your question in the Tucson section of www.craigslist.org under the Kids & Babies section.
