best places to live

Which are the best cost of living states?

Where do you think the best cost of living states are? Live in Jersey and looking for a new location. Looking to move within the next year or two. New Jersey is too expensive. I hardly make enough to support myself and three children. Rent is $1200 a month, child care is $1100 a month. Not to mention, food, and neccessiteis. Looking for a safe yet lower priced state to reside.

  1. The ones with the lowest cost of living are generally those with the lowest pay, especially states with large rural areas, e.g. Oklahoma, some areas of Texas, etc...
  2. I live in NH, I've heard it is pretty good here. I think about 6% right now.
  3. Maine is relatively cheap. New Hampshire has little taxes. Rents are cheap in both states and are relatively close to where you are at. Rents in the capitol of Maine range from 1200/ nice apartment, to 335/ month for an efficiency. Rents in Portland Maine are nearly double. If you are looking for an in city place to live dont pick the larger cities in the state. The larger the city the higher the rent.
  4. I do not know where the best cost of living is (and by that, do you mean lowest?) but Texas is pretty user friendly as far as cost of living goes. Certain parts are cheaper than others, but overall its still pretty liveable.
  5. The south... like Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee. I live in Alabama and I love it. It just depends where you live. Dont judge it by the movies. I'd say about 10 percent of the state is like the movies and the other 90 is closer to everywhere else especially places like Huntsville and Mobile. You can buy a mansion in Alabama for the price of a small house in Jersey. I've lived all around the world - grew up a military bratt and served in the Air Force. Alabama is the nicest place so far if you ask me. Bottom line dont judge it by TV and the news. For some reason they love to find the most back woods people to interview - to get a reaction out of people and to feed on stereotypes. CounselorDan
  6. I live in Tennessee and it's awesome....no income tax, low sales tax....it's a good deal...
