Private Places in Hartford Connecticut?

My girlfriend goes to school in Massachussetts and I go to school in New York. We decided to make Hartford Connecticut a nice weekly meeting place when school is in session since it's comfortable for commuting. We'd like to find a nice, private place to be together, not necessarily do anything too sketchy...Are there any big grassy parks or affordable (given the finances of two college students) bed + breakfast places around? Getting a hotel/motel room is either too expensive, tasteless, or both x.x Much thanks!

  1. Not sure why you think a B&B is cheaper than a motel. I've yet to find one I can afford. I know you don't like the "suggestion" of a motel; but there are a few decent motels in\near Hartford that won't dent your wallets. You can find rooms in the $50-$55 range with TWO beds (lest anyone think your intentions are less than honorable). Check out Motel 6 in Hartford and Wethersfield. Motel 6 has been bought by the Accor hotel chain, and have been upgrading them from the buggy reputation they had 25 years ago. And at the very least, you get free coffee in the morning. The location in Wethersfield on Rt 99 has restaurants and fast food all around, as well as some interesting shopping. Have you been to Dinosaur Track State park? Taken in a show at Goodspeed Opera House? Visited Gillette Castle? Walked across a covered bridge? All are a short distance from Hartford.
  2. Bushnell Park is the Boston Common/Central Park of Hartford. Try it!
