Safest large town/small cities to live in the US?

Obviously, there's unlikely to be much crime in a small town of 5000, but can you suggest any safe, large towns (population 100,000 - 200,000), that doesn't have too many social problems, and generally has good amenities, shopping, etc, without having to travel too far.

1. Champaign-Urbana, Illinois -- it has some race and crime problems, but they are small. There are also prolems with having 40K students running around a university. Overall a very safe, well behaved town. (Champaign is abt 80K people and Urbana is about 40K so 120 K in total). Excellent mass transit! Madison Wi -- Very similar to CU except bigger and colder and it has a lake.
