Best Small Town Rural Southern Cities to Live In?

So I've been through a lot of times in the area I live in, and it holds a lot of patterned routines that are not healthy for my mindset. I'm also not suited for the income that is required to maintain a lifestyle here, or the atmosphere that this environment provides. I've been trying to do some research into quiet rurual southen areas that are low key and low population, traditional types-- farmers markets and country stores and local shops and such, not so spread out that it's not functionally developed, but enough to have a community thats welcoming and involved. I know all the big busy names likes Savannah and Atlanta and those things, but I'm trying to find the smaller off "45 minutes from such and such" places, where places go as fixer upers and small amount of land for cheap, get the drift? I'm from South Florida so the heat doesn't do me me in, it's the snow I have only seen once in my life. I'm a simple sort of girl really and not in the meek sense, I just don't have the taste for down here, I'd rather be sitting out back on my friends poarch and working and things like that then trying to beat 'f rush how... y'know.. the more natual qualities and bountiful things

  1. I would look at the following towns in North Carolina, listed in order of my recommendations according to your criteria: Boone Chapel Hill Wilmington Asheville Southport Winston-Salem
  2. Oh man - North Carolina man has got it DOWN...would love to give it all up in crazy Atlanta and live in Bryson City along the Nantahala in North Carolina...Any small western town in NC would be ideal. Hickory is really nice. I would stick to places along the Appalacian trail if I were you. They are the most scenic, rustic and seasonal. The further south you go ... like Savannah and Macon and all that - MAN - it gets hot...so if the heat doesn't bother you - go for it. OK - I am about to go put some John Denver on...play me some mountain music...maybe go drink some moonshine. Happy moving!
