Any places for bariatric rehabilitation in Texas?
I am extremely obese (around 700 pounds) and have all the problems associated with obesity, most notably lymphedema. I have had lymphedema for five years and have never gotten much help. Anyway, I am wondering if there is any such place in Texas where I can go where they will keep me and take care of my problems for a while, even put me on a diet. I am becoming less and less mobile and need help. Thanks.

- Greetings, first off, what has your doctor done for you to help the weight problem and lymphedema? Some of your weight might not be all weight, it could be fluid. So many lymphedema patients are told they are "fat" when in fact there is an overload of fluid, I'm not saying you don't have some weight issues as well but you'd be surprized at how much fluid there can be retained along with weight. First off your doctor needs to refer you to a good bariatric center to be evaluated, and also to a certified lymphedema therapist. I'm assuming that you haven't been referred to one yet. What a le therapist can do is a special bodywork that will help move the fluid out of your body. http://www.texasbariatric.com/ http://www.obesitysurgerydallas.com/ The above are both very good places. Let me know what city you live near and I can find you a good therapist you can tell your doctor or the surgeon to refer you to. I would also suggest joining both a lymphedema and a weight loss support group. I own Lymphland, you can read about lymphedema and join the group from my site, http://www.lymphland.com And I would suggest obesity help http://www.obesityhelp.com/ for the weight loss group. Amy Williams a member of my group and the obesity help group has done awesome, you can read her story and contact her from her site: http://www.amylhwilliams.com/ Hope this helps. Tina
