best places to live

In South Carolina, can someone move out at 17 years old?

My friend and I are looking to remove ourselves from our home in Georgia. My sister, older than I, moved out at seventeen, went to Mass. and the police said they couldn't do anything about it. My friend would like to stay close to home, and I just want to get out. We are currently looking at places in South Carolina because we have heard that it is legal to live there at 17 years of age. Can someone give me PROOF of this (i.e. links to official webpages), to prove that it is either true or false? I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Call the state police and ask them they know the state laws.
  2. In South Carolina, if you are 17 years old and living with your parents, then you can leave home at any time. The age of majority here is 18 though. So technically, you would have to be emancipated and under the watch of a guardian ad litem. When you leave home, you are subject to the laws in your home state for emancipation and runaways. However, i don't think South Carolina would extradite you because it's legal here.
