best places to live

Is South Carolina a great place to start over from nothing?

I'm a single mother and I want to move from New York to the South with my children. Is that a good move ? Keep in mind, I dont have family, friends or a job!

  1. It absolutely is! I moved here 9 years ago and will never leave. The weather is great, people are SO very friendly, job prospects are great. I love everything about it. We're looking forward to raising our family here. We live in Greenville. Good Luck!
  2. I think it would all depend on your situation financially. Whether or not you need a job, and if you have one lined up. If you're trying to look for one out of state, might be harder, many companies don't want to pay for relocation expenses. Keep in mind the jobs aren't as plentiful as they are in NY, and more so depending on where you live. Moving from the City to the Country can be a big culture shock, you might want to take a long trip down there for a couple of weeks to get to know the area's the type of people, the schools, the communities, the overall culture. That would be the smartest thing to do. You may find out that it isn't what you thought it was, and keep looking for something else. It's alot more complicated then deciding to pick up and move, when you have children. You need to do what's best for them, and get the best schools and community for them. Good luck!
  3. South Carolina would be good, Columbia or Charleston. If you want to move south, think about Atlanta. I know rent is expensive but job prospects would be better. Just a thought.
