Where inside the USA is the best place to live and why?

Our family has moved 29 times over the years. We have transversed the nation several times and now as I left my former career, we have settled in what I feel is one of the two best places. I'd like to know where you think is the best place to settle down and why? Just for info.: We are a fairly young family (I'm 42) with two children ages 10, and 12. We were lucky enough to retire early and spend time with our kids while they are still growing We chose Western Montana near Helena for various reasons. What would be your choice?

1. I went to a college town with a good airport, good medical facilities, and an active community - Austin, Texas. Helena is beautiful in the non-winter months, but that snow and cold is a little tough for these old bones. We also looked closely at Manhattan Kansas, St. George Utah, Albuquerque and Las Cruces New Mexico, and Durango Colorado. I think any of them would have worked just fine.
