- There is a Super 8 Motel right off of Garden of the Gods Blvd. Then when you go to Garden of the Gods it is just right up the road. But definitly drive up the Pikes Peak Road. You will never forget that. A little scary but safe. It just looks scarey. Then go see the Broadmore Hotel. Its worth a look. Head up North a bit and just West of Castle Rock you can tent camp at Deckers. Right on the South Platte River. Really beautiful. Further North is Black Hawk and Central City. So close they are like one mountain town. Like the old west. Including small stakes gaming tables and slot machines. All to the old west tradition. And don't leave there without checking out The Little Bear in Evergreen. Have some beers and listen to some great local and sometimes even national bands.Have fun.
- Ah, Colorado. My home, sweet home. This courtyard is pretty nice. I've stayed there before. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/COSCS Quite honestly, it's cheaper to stay in Denver than it is Colorado Springs. (I have no idea why, but it is!) And Denver is just about an hour north of the Springs. Garden on the Gods is a great spot. Be sure to bring plenty of sun screen though! As for other things to do, Royal Gorge is always fun. You could hike across the bridge and then take a rafting trip under it on the great Arkansas River. Cripple Creek is a great little mountain gambling town if you'd like to try your luck at the slots and follow it with an evening at the meladrama. (Although I agree with the above poster. I prefer Blackhawk when it comes to gaming.) But that is closer to Denver than it is Springs. Seven Falls is touristy, but has a great hike at the top of the falls that leads to a great view of the Springs. The Air Force Academy is always a neat visit too. Near Garden of the Gods is a place called Cave of the Winds. It's like Carlsbad on a tiny scale. Neat caves....do some spelunking. Best advice I can give is if you're not from the state be aware that there is such a thing as altitude sickness. The best remedy is to drink plenty of water, use your sun screen!, and take your time. No matter your phyical physique, the air is thinner and it will take a toll if you're not used to such a thing. I've given you lots of touristy ideas, but if you'd like any off the beaten path ideas, please feel free to email me if you like. gojenni714@yahoo.com
- Priceline actually has really good deals on hotels in Colorado Springs. Almost all of Colo Springs is right up against the mountains, so most hotels will be within driving distance of the things you want to see. Can't recall if Priceline has the city broken down into regions or not, but anything on the north side is going to be relatively new and/or nice. Just want to add to what gojenni said - Denver _can_ have cheaper hotels, but that depends on where you stay. And even though the south side of the Denver Metro Area is only an hour away from the north side of Colorado springs, getting too deep into the city can add quite a bit of time to your drive with traffic. Because the Springs (as we natives call it) is still primarily a military town, hotel prices vary widely, depending upon the activity there - getting a hotel around the Air Force Academy's major events can be very difficult and expensive. Know when you're going and being flexible on dates can make a big difference.
