1. Which metro area? Personally I love the Eugene area, and you can purchase a starter or fixer-upper home in some of the small towns around Eugene for under $100,000 if you look hard and are willing to put in some "sweat equity". In the Eugene/Springfield area itself, any homes at that price will be in less appealing areas, but in some of the small towns like Harrisburg, Creswell, and Veneta it can be done ... but it may take some time to find what you are looking for.
