what are the best places in new york for young teenagers to visit?

Going on a short trip to New York next weekend. Which of the attractions are best for children aged 12-14?

  1. try this...
  2. Natural History Museum is great for all ages, the guggenheim has an exhibit right now that I think a lot of kids might really like, central park on a nice day is always a hit, harbor tour of the statue of liberty, the empire state building. Times square of course.
  3. i was walking around NYC alone at that age. I'd say go to MoMA or the Met, the Central Park Zoo, walk down and around Fifth to Times Square, lower Soho, maybe Dumbo or East Village (eat at Veselka) if your kids are punks or artists. Also Chinatown, Chelsea Piers (if weather permits). Chealsea Market or Union Sq. Market on Sat. I personally love the Upper West side. Go to Strand and the NYPL. As for the Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero- I've never been because they sounds boring. BTW, I'm 17 now and I've been visiting the city frequently for about 4 years now.
  4. A trip to Chinatown would be perfect. There is so much to see, shops to wander in & out, & food to try (from exotic to candy to hot dog carts). And ride the Staten Island ferry at dusk or nite for an absolutely amazing view of the city & Statue of Liberty.
  5. Empire State Building
