1. Staten Island ferry--free, one hour round trip, fine view of the harbor. Central Park--free, zoo and many things to do in a lazy manner. United Nations--you can pay for a tour or just explore on your own, sit in on meetings, etc. The gift shop is great for souvenirs and has no sales tax.
