- There are too many restaurants to list, but one thing you should know. You USUALLY need reservations to get into good restaurants. The best ones book a full month in advance. Try a site like opentable.com to search for available places.
- I don't know what your budget is but No reservations are needed if you want a truly authentic New York dining experience. I have lived around New York all of my life and it is a food lovers paradise! One of my favorite places to eat in New York is Chelsea Markets http://www.chelseamarket.com/ on 9th ave. between 15th and 16th streets. It has an assortment of delicious gourmet and ethnic food vendors housed in a converted Nabisco Factory that looks and feels like nothing else in the world. Little Italy has a number of great albeit expensive restaurant with my favorite being Benito's II on Mulberry street and don't forget the Cannolis at Ferrara's http://www.ferraracafe.com/nyc/ right around the corner on Grand street If you are brave you could try one of the hundreds of restaurants in neighboring Chinatown but I worn you that Chinatown Chinese food may be a little different than what most Americanized Chinese food restaurants serve. Personally my favorite Chinese food restaurant is Chin Chin http://www.chinchinny.com/ or if your on a budget Sammy's Noodle House http://www.gotham2go.com/index.php/24/1/256. Try Sammy's cold sesame noodles! Delicious thick noodles with a peanut buttery sesame sauce. If you want good BBQ try Virgils http://www.virgilsbbq.com/ but make sure to make a reservation as that is a popular destination. You could also try Dinosaur BBQ http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/nycIndex.php which has live music on Saturday I believe as well. Want good steak? How bout the best in the country at Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Brooklyn http://www.peterluger.com/. Its expensive but you get what you pay for!!! This is a no nonsense steakhouse with a menu that includes steak, steak, and more steak. New Yorkers are divided on their favorite Pizza place but I would highly recommend John's Pizza http://www.johnsofbleeckerstreet.com/ for a truly New York experience. This is all I can think of for now but New York is truly a first rate culinary city! Don't forget that besides your above mentioned ethnic specialties New York also has great Jewish, Jamaican, Thai, Middle Eastern, and Greek food. Walk around and try it all!! and please for God's sake don't let me see you eating in the Red Lobster in Times Square or similarly insulting chain restaurants while in New York! As for things to do how bout- Metropolitan Museum of Art- http://www.metmuseum.org/ Museum of Natural History- http://www.amnh.org/ Bronx Zoo- http://www.bronxzoo.com/ Greenwich Village- http://www.nycgv.com/ Guggenheim- http://www.guggenheim.org/new_york_index.shtml
