best places to live

Where are the best places to look for buying a home or condo in the boroughs of New York City?

My husband and I are both professionals and have a nice 4-bedroom house in central Virginia but I don't like it here (I can't stand the southern mentality). I grew up on Long Island. I want to live near NYC. I know that we would have a smaller home but we don't have any kids or dogs so it won't matter. What areas should I look into? I prefer a house over a condo.

  1. if you were from long island why not come back??? they are making beautiful condos down here in the Rockville Centre, and some in Freeport area and the ones i saw very nice, were in Garden City. Good luck with your move :)
  2. Somewhere in Queens, like astoria, richmond hill, howard beach etc
  3. Of course it depends on how much your looking to spend. You can find a coop in Riverdale in the Bronx for around 250k. You could find a coop in Inwood in upper Manhattan for maybe 300k. Check out www.foxtons.com. The realtors are idiots (I've had a few problems w/them) but their listings are cool (lots of pics, virtual tours). I would also suggest a road trip back here 1st to see what your getting yourselves into. Unfortunately its colder now so people are inside. The summer is when you see a neighborhoods true colors. You could go back to LI, just be prepared for over inflated property taxes.
