best places to live

Where is the best place to live in Brussels?

My husband got posted to brussels for his job and i am looking for the best place to live. i have 6 kids ranging from 4-16 years. i need some where close to shops, good schools, parks and not too far from the centre of brussels. 30 mins tops. we are french and english so that really isnt a problem. Money isnt a problem either we are very wealthy so a posh suburb would be good. Somewhere with low crime rates would be great. and some where kid friendly.

  1. The South of Brussels : all the " communes" hereunder mentioned have international schools nearby and are all about 20 to 30 " drive from downtown Brussels, all have poshy neighbourhoods and have most expats living there : Watermael- Boitsfort (French speaking) Woluwe-Saint -Pierre (French speaking) Woluwe -Saint -Lambert (French speaking) Stockel (Flemish speaking) Tervueren (Flemish speaking) Overijse (Flemish speaking, next to Tervueren) La Hulpe (next to Overijse but French speaking) These parts of Brussels are very green : lots of parcs and forest. (Foret de Soignes + Arboretum) Waterloo which is about 20-30 minutes drive from downtown - depending on traffic -is also very popular with the American community. You have the Catholic Saint John's International school there too. Etterbeek and Ixelles (communes voisines, with parcs and woods - Bois de la Cambre) which are smack in the middle of Brussels but the nearest to the city center) are busy but also very popular for young expats who like to go out and enjoy life after working hours. To get an idea of the rent, check out www.Vlan.be. This is a specific newspaper from the Brussels area where you'll find all types of accomodation for rent or sale. Waterloo would probably be the place where you'll get the greatest choice of homes for rent or for sale. All places mentioned have a shopping street with boutiques but also a choice of supermarkets. All are children friendly and quite safe. Tip : As everywhere else, when you want to rent or buy property, you can always e.g. negociate at least 10 % off the initial price and have the place repainted. Hope this helps. Bonne chance et si vous avez encore quelques questions, n' hesitez pas a les poster ici.
