What is the best place to live coastal parts of North carolina ?

Can you Please tell me what its really like there? Are the towns nice place to live and what are the best areas? Why isnt there any hotels near the beaches? I can only find hotels in Myrtle beach..Thanks so much !!!!! What is there to really do there? Is the ocean clean and blue and are there sharks?? Thanks
