Is there a FREE newspaper in Moscow (like the METRO-style newspapers in many european cities) ?

By extension: where could I find information about media companies in Moscow (and Russia) ?

  1. There must be free newspapers, but I am not sure what the 'metro style' means. My friend said that "The Moscow Times" and "Bolshoi Gorod" ("Large City") are free. They have on-line versions: http://www.themoscowtimes.com/ - in English - general topics http://www.bg.ru/ - in Russian - entertainment (oh sorry, this must be a magazine, not a newspaper) There is also a newspaper called "Iz ruk v ruki" ("From hands to hands"), it's only for advertising, making commercial announcements. There are many free newspapers of that kind in Russian. Here is a list: http://psbp.agency-siam.ru/ (Russian only) I can translate or transliterate these, if you would like. Some examples: "Cars and prices", "Repair and housebuilding", "Supply agent", "Products and Prices". News about media companies which are connected in their activity with the Internet: http://webplanet.ru/english
  2. Although you might not be able to find them in open-air kiosks, as is the case in many US and other cities, the following papers are distributed free, and are printed English, as well as other, versions (corresponding links, below). Hotels and tourist information facilities should have at least one of them: - Moscow News (pre-eminent newspaper) - The Moscow Tribune (pre-eminent newspaper) - Center Plus (classifieds; sort of like the "Pennysaver") - Extra M (classifieds . . . ) - From Hands to Hands (I *think* this is a loose translation of the French phrase "Entre Nous" ("Between Us"), which *might* make it an entertainment-style magazine, but, don't quote me on that!) The last two links, below, list some newspapers and media organizations. Udachi, tovarisch! (Good luck, my friend!) ;)
  3. They have the very same free paper called the Metro which is available to pick up at all the Metro station entrances.
