North Dakota-Is this state a good place to live? My wife was offer a good job there. How is the weather there

I live in Texas, which is 100 degrees today. My wife was offer a better job in North Dakota. I live here in Texas for 40 years. Will it sound crazy to move this far north?

  1. The summers in North Dakota usually don't get above say 85 with rare exceptions. The winters are down right cold with the prairie winds blowing. The summers there are also short and things really start to cool down after August. The main thing that is grown there is wheat as not too many other vegetables grow there too well. By the way, the schools are great, but very little diversity. You have only two kinds of people in North Dakota, whites(very white, like Scandinavians) and American Indians. The big cities have more diversity, but not places like Minot.
  2. I would say North Dakota and Texas are about as close to polar opposites as you can find. From this page: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/38000.html We see: Population, percent change, April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2006 ND: -1.0%, USA: +6.4% Persons per square mile, ND: 9.3, USA: 79.6 Median value of owner-occupied housing units ND: $74,400, USA $119,600 Those numbers say ND is not in very high demand as a destination. The winters are pretty brutal, but if you're looking for cheap housing (don't forget the heating bills, though), and a lot of space, then North Dakota is for you.
