what is the best suburb of melbourne to live?

I am planning to move to melbourne to live and work, but i dont fancy the city so i was wondering what is the best suburb would be to look for property to rent with regards to school for my kids work for me and my partner (we are both chefs)and some social entertainment.

1. My friend lives in Ascot Vale...which is a very good area indeed.
2. I have one cousin that lives at Wyndamvale and another that lives at Werribee, I thought both places were really nice areas to live, the houses are much cheaper in Werribee, you can get a four bed house with 2 bathrooms, a huge lounge and rumpus room, huge kitchen and diner with a massive garden and double garage for less than £130,000, there building houses all the time in Werribee and the show houses give you some brilliant ideas, enjoy your life in Australia, its a fantastic place and I would emigrate myself if I could.
3. I KNOW THE BEST PLACE middle park beach suburb inner city which would be perfect for chefs heaps of my friends live there are they're always riding their bikes around to the beach and hanging out, seriously every kid who knows someone from middle park envies them and there are heaps of schools around, public and private http://www.middle-park.com/
4. Places I'd recommend: Williamstown (on the beach, great cafe scene, good schools, etc) Moonee Ponds (cafe vibe, markets, shopping) All the Best ..
5. hi i live an hours drive from melbourne city, personally i dont like suburbia its too crowded, i moved to the country 3 years ago and havnt looked back and we do have shopping centres here and jobs, but i can recommend geelong to you as its a short drive to the beaches and has all the shopping facilities your looking for and plenty of employment. good luck with your move :)
6. I would suggest you check out Williamstown.... Great beachside town, just about 15 minuets train into the city center... Nice friendly feel to the place, great little town. Could'nt tell you rental or property details... But the place itself is great :)
7. I would recommand u to come to Broadmeadows. everything in here is so cheap (rent, schools, health centres, etc...) and the people in here are very friendly cuz its a multicultural suburb. good luck
8. personally, i think South Yarra/ Toorak area is great. Its close to the city (aboutu 15mins on tram) and has a great atmosphere. Pleanty of restaurants with many schools around, although most of them are private.
9. Hey there ... I really think there are a few questions to ask before considering a good answer for you ... Firstly ... if $$ aren't an issue then look at Toorak, South Yarra or Armadale which are gorgeous, close to the city and all it has to offer, St.Kilda is close to the beach and increasingly trendy, or Brighton is more upmarket but also by the Beach. Brunswick is a trendy inner city area but features very small terrace style houses - ok for kids, but not much space... outer suburbs in different directions offer better value like in most cities in the world ... do you want private schools or are public ok for your budget? Are your children small - do you want lots of outdoor facilities for them, ie parks, pools, shopping centres, etc. or would you prefer to be closer to areas which attract more alternative lifestyle occupants (ie Brunswick, Fitzroy - both inner city) ... 10. I used to live in Boronia. It has restaurants, plenty of shops, malls, post office, etc etc. It also has a rail line going through it as well as buses that are available.
11. I live in moonee ponds and I think it is the best place ever! It is close to the city ( about 10 minutes by car ), puckle st and union rd that has lost of cafes and cute little clothing shops, its a warm safe area, and then you got highpoint which is my favourite place lmao (SHOPPING!!) haha it is a huge shopping mall, it is 3 stories tall full of the best shops around!
12. Brighton is so great we are the richest suburb we have fabolous schools cafes people homez and sporting facilities. And we are on a luxurious beach.
