Which is a better place to live? New york City (not very hip places)or Newport Pavonia in Jersey City?

I am Indian (South Asian) and there are tons from my community in Newport, the place is very posh with the boardwalk and the Manhattan views but I am confused about whether living in the city, Maybe the upper east or west would be a better choice. What do you think are the pros and cons of both places.

1. You ought to go to New York City and tell the rest of the South Asians about moving to Newport... It sounds a lot better than living in a big city and you can at least view all of it from where you live...
