best places to live

Where is a good place for singles to live in Chicago, either with or without roommates?

I am looking for a good area or good building where singles live in Chicago.

  1. there are a pretty good selection of neighborhoods with young singles....check out Wrigleyville (Lakeview near Addison and Clark); Bucktown / Wicker Park (near intersectin of Milwaukee / North and Damen); north Lincoln Park...near Armitage; Ukranian Village - Division near Milwaukee and west of there. If you are moving here, take a short term rental somewhere near any of those locations and check them all out...DO NOT BUY a condo before checking out each of those areas...you need some time to check out a city the size of Chicago and to locate an area you like. good luck.....enjoy our fair city Go Cubbies!
  2. Lincoln Park.
  3. Now lets be real now, condo in chicago...? bad idea. waste of money you can be in a house; you still have to pay association fee, you are paying for convenience, just my twenty cents. anywho I love hyde park, i live in south shore area next door but love hyde park. its a singles place as well as families there. you have your restaurants, museums down the street, schools, hospitals, not far from downtown, so much culture too; i say this bc all of this will get you into a good social scene. i agree with my neighbor above though, sign short term leases and check out all areas. o meant to add, the big con everyone knows about....HARD PARKING
  4. lincoln park or roscoe village or bucktown
  5. Man, name a place where singles DON'T live. Chicago is becoming the singles capital of the Midwest because more and more young families are moving out of the city to the 'burbs because they want more space. Every available block of land is being snapped up by people cramming in condos for singles or young couples with no kids. But if you want an area where there is a lot of nightlife and singles-type bars, try Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Wicker Park, Andersonville and Edgewater. Andersonville and Edgewater are probably the cheapest right now but rents are moving up. There's also changes going on in Uptown. Lots of condos and lofts are being built there but there are still a few shady characters. But there are buildings all over these areas where mostly singles live. Visit the city first. Come here for a weekend, visit the neighborhoods during the day AND night and see which is more to your liking. The single life can be fun at first, but eventually you get tired of the bars, the loud music, the whoops and hollers and frat boys too drunk to make it to a bathroom and taking a whiz near your front yard.
  6. The suburbs such as Higland Park, Cierco, Oak Park, Evanston, Peoria, Joliet, Rockford, Gary, anywhere far far away from Chicago if you want to live a decent life.
  7. Wow - that's everywhere. But the neighborhoods that probably have the most singles are the Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and Wrigleyville neighborhoods (stretching from North Avenue on the south to Irving Park on the north, the lake on the east and Ashland Avenue on the west) and the Wicker Park / Bucktown neighborhood (the area surrounding the convergence of North, Damen, and Milwaukee Avenues.)
